Ahmedabad – Ahead of 2022 Vidhan Sabha Polls Gujrat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in a shocking move resigned from his post today. In a meeting with Gujrat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Rupani handed over his resignation.
The development in Gujrat leave BJP with three options. BJP can appoint a new CM to replace Rupani (and his cabinet by default) or it can call for President’s rule in the state. The third option that BJP could opt is to call for early polls.
BJP is likely to go with the first option. According to sources in the party, Rupani will be replaced by a new face. Mansukh Mandviy’s name is in the race for Chief Minister’s post in Gujrat. Mandviy has been recently appointed as the union health minister, ditching Harash Vardhan from the Modi Cabinet. Another name for the post is of Gujrat Deputy CM Nitin Patel.
Rupani after resignation addressed media. He thanked party, PM Modi, Amit Shah and BJP national predident J P Nadda for giving him apportunity to serve as CM of Gujrat for five years.
Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani in a tweet called Rupani’s resignation BJP’s move for political gains.
Mevani’s tweet reads, “Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani resigns: People of Gujarat would have appreciated had Mr. Rupani resigned for his monumental mismanagement of Covid crisis. This resignation comes purely to take care of electoral arithmetic keeping 2022 assembly polls in mind.”
