Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 17 (ANI): Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay paid floral tribute to Periyar, also known as the ‘father of the Dravidian movement’, on his 146th birth anniversary.
Vijay paid tribute to Periyar in his memorial ‘Periyar Thidal’ at Chennai. This is the very first time as a politician that Vijay paid floral tribute to a leader on their remembrance day.
Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin also paid floral tribute to Periyar on his 146th birth anniversary, at Anna Salai in Chennai.
The DMK ally party Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi praised actor-turned-politician Vijay for garlanding the Periyar statue.
VCK MP, Thol. Thirumavalavan (MP) posted on X and said, “I appreciate and congratulate Actor Vijay, President of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The fact that Father Periyar’s statue was showered with flowers on Social Justice Day, his birthday, shows that he is for the marginalized and that equality is his goal.”
BJP leader Tamilisai Soundarajan said that Tamil Nadu doesn’t need another party that imitates the DMK and, as a change state, only needs parties with national interest.
“We thought brother Vijay’s journey would be different. But so prior he has shown his policy by not wishing for Vinayagar Chaturthi and speaking about two-language policy. When I was in Telangana, Vijay movies were released in Telugu and he was celebrated. So for business, one needs many languages, but for people, knowledge of many languages is not needed,” she said.
Earlier this year, South superstar Thalapathy Vijay officially announced the name of his political party as ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazham’ (TVK).
Vijay stated that Tamil people are the ones who gave him everything and he wanted to give it back to them.
Vijay is known for his eye-catching performances in films such as ‘Theri’, ‘Master’, ‘Bigil’, ‘Beast’ ‘Puli’, ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Mersal’, and ‘Kaththi’, among others.
Vijay will be next seen in the film ‘The Greatest of All Time’. (ANI)
