Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 8 (ANI): Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday termed the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and All India Congress Committee (AICC) session to be held today (April 8) and tomorrow (April 9), as a “turning point” for the party.

Shivakumar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s (KPCC) president, has come to Ahmedabad for the meeting and session.

“We had a meeting of all the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents in Delhi, lot of leaders have given suggestions, and we are going to discuss those. It will be a turning point for the congress party in the future,” Shivakumar told ANI.

Elaborating further, Karnataka Congress president said that this year the party will focus on organisation by giving more power to district and block leaders, and that there will be a “complete revamp” of the party.

“We are conducting a historic AICC session….we have decided that this year will the year of organisation. Under the president-ship of Mallikarjun Kharge, and leadership of Rahul Gandhi we want to revamp the entire county’s organisation. We want to give more strength to cadres of the party from district level to block level,” he said.

Earlier on April 7, party leader and Congress’ chairman of media and publicity department , Pawan Khera expressed confidence that the resolutions would mark a change in course of politics in the country and provide guidance to Congress.

Speaking to ANI, Khera drew a powerful parallel between Gujarat’s historical significance and the party’s future. He emphasized that Gujarat, through leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Mahatma Gandhi, has always been a beacon of hope for the nation.

“Gujarat has always shown the way – Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Mahatma Gandhi showed the way to the nation and Congress at a time when it appeared that dark clouds surrounded the nation. Today, again, it is time for Congress to take inspiration from Gujarat. I can say for certain that the resolutions that come out of the discussions held in this conference will change the course of politics in the country,” Khera said.

This will be the 84th National Convention of the AICC on April 8-9, marking the event’s historic return to Gujarat after a 64-year gap.

The meeting, set against the scenic backdrop of the Sabarmati Riverfront, will witness the presence of several Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and KC Venugopal.

Congress MP and party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had earlier traced the Indian National Congress’s long-standing connection with Gujarat and announced that the next meeting is scheduled for April 8-9 in Ahmedabad under the presidency of party leader Mallikarjun Kharge. (ANI)
