Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], April 22 (ANI): As many as seven people were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a minor in Bhubaneswar, said the police on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals include Basuni alias Subhrakant Mohapatra (22), Somu alias Somnath Das (21), Bicky alias Chinmaya Kumar Nayak (22), Sandip Routray alias Rocky (22), Sagar Nayak (21), Sujata Jena (19), and Nibedita Das (20).

The seven accused involved in the meticulously planned crime were arrested across Khurda and Nayagarh districts.

Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh shared details about the case. The abduction was reported at around 10:30 AM, when the boy’s mother received a ransom call, threatening to kill her son if the family informed the police.

Despite the threat, police acted promptly, setting up four dedicated teams to track and rescue the child.

The rescue operation was launched without waiting for a formal complaint. Subsequently, the victim was safely recovered from a rented house in Nirakarpur, Khorda district.

According to the Commissioner, the mastermind behind the crime, Subhrakant Mohapatra alias Basuni, was a close acquaintance of the family, as he belonged to the same village as the complainant.

Police revealed that Mohapatra had devised the plan after learning that the boy’s father had recently received a substantial sum from the sale of land.

In collusion with six others, including two women, the group abducted the child while he was en route to school and demanded ransom.

Raids were conducted under the jurisdiction of Airfield PS (Bhubaneswar), Nirakarpur PS (Khorda), and Ranpur PS (Nayagarh).

The police seized the car used in the abduction, along with an R15 motorcycle, eight mobile phones, and a SIM card used for the ransom call.

The boy was safely rescued, unharmed, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details and any other possible links in the case. (ANI)
