Patna (Bihar) [India], July 22 (ANI): Violent clashes and stone-pelting broke out outside the state Congress headquarters in Patna on Wednesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers held high-voltage demonstrations across multiple states to protest the Congress party’s march toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Kalyan Marg (LKM) residence in New Delhi.
The nationwide counter-protests, spanning Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh, follow a day of intense political escalation in the national capital over the NEET-UG 2026 examination controversy and alleged police aggression against student groups.
Earlier today, a large number of BJP workers gathered outside the Congress headquarters in Gujarat to stage a protest against the opposition party’s demonstration near PM Modi’s Lok Kalyan Marg residence.
In Kerala, the BJP workers marched towards the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office alleging that the Congress attempted to incite violence in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence during its protest outside LKM in Delhi on July 21.
Meanwhile, similar protests were held by BJP workers in several states, including Jaipur, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, over the Congress’ Delhi demonstration.
Earlier, Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several other opposition leaders, were detained following police action during the party’s protest near Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. The Congress had demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
While being detained by the Delhi Police, Congress MP Priyanka Vadra said, “They are cowards. They are scared. We are not scared of them. They are scared of us.”
Police attempted to forcibly remove Rahul Gandhi from the site and were seen carrying him to the bus.
Several Congress leaders, including K Suresh and former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, were also detained as police dispersed the demonstrators, who had marched from Rajaji Marg to Lok Kalyan Marg after alleging police brutality against students protesting over the paper leak a day earlier.
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also condemned the detention of Congress leaders and said that the protest will continue till the students get justice.
The Congress protest followed a day of heightened political confrontation over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and police action against unarmed student protesters. Parliament witnessed repeated disruptions as Opposition parties sought a discussion on the issue, while Congress maintained that the Centre must take responsibility for the examination controversy and the alleged police excesses against students.
